Restoring a Dormobile

When Martin Walter Ltd folded in 1994 it looked like it would be harder to renovate any Dormobiles as it would be difficult to get parts.
But in 2002 the company and name was sold to the SHB Hire Group. Dormobile is now based in Romsey near Southampton. The company now supplies specialist spare parts to the original Dormobile market. This means that anyone looking to restore their Dormobile can now get hold of official Dormobile parts.

They produce the classic folding roof and can convert new and old Land Rovers into Dormobiles. And as for the classic VW Dormobile owners of the vehicles can also get hold of the classic lifting roof mechanism.

And the new company also means that anyone who has a Land Rover that they want to convert into a new Dormobile they can.

Wherever, the parts come from restoring or converting a Dormobile is a labour of love with enthusiasts working hard to restore their vehicles to its former glory.

And it’s not just the roof that needs restoration the interiors often need work too with little things like door hinges and work surfaces often needing attention but once it is done owners can have their own holiday home on wheels with the freedom to hit the open road and explore wherever they want. And for many that is well worth the Labour of love and effort involved.
